A man was arrested on a charge of arson early Tuesday morning after a fire at a Lithonia area home.

Crews with DeKalb fire were called around 1:40 a.m. to put out the blaze in the 6100 block of Creekford Drive off Phillips Road, fire Capt. Dion Bentley told AJC.com.

While there were people inside the home when the fire started, they had escaped before firefighters arrived. The man arrested also faces other charges, Bentley said. His name was not released as an investigation is ongoing.

Because of the nature of the charges, Bentley said any further details were expected to be released by police.
