Bees panic Temescal Canyon High students, prompt false speculation about a shooting – Press-Enterprise
A swarm of bees descended on Temescal Canyon High School in Lake Elsinore on Wednesday, prompting panic among some students and false speculation that there was a shooting on campus.
The large swarm arrived on campus during the lunch period, shortly before 1 p.m., prompting students to run and seek shelter in classrooms. Some who weren’t aware of the bees ran simply because they saw others fleeing.
“That inspired those not in the know to speculate there was an active shooter,” Principal Whitney D’Amico wrote in an email to staff, according to Lake Elsinore Unified School District spokesman Mark Dennis. There were no reports of anyone being stung, Dennis said. And just as quickly as the bees arrived, they left, he said.
