Council Bluffs police officer dragged by car during arrest attempt

A Council Bluffs police officer sustained minor injuries early Tuesday when he was dragged by a car while attempting to detain a man.

The officer was at Kwik Shop, 3632 Avenue G, shortly after midnight when he saw a man believed to be the subject of an arrest warrant sitting in a car. When the officer attempted to open the driver’s door, the man put the car in reverse, trapping the officer’s hand.

The officer was dragged backward approximately 20 to 30 feet, police said, but stayed on his feet while freeing himself. The man, in his early to mid-20s, fled southbound on Interstate 29 and is thought to have crossed into Nebraska.

The vehicle is an early 2000s Chevrolet Tahoe. It’s described as being painted with a black undercoating type of spray paint, police said.
