Police responded to a reported shooting around 2 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the Island Grill restaurant and club at East Lake Avenue and North 34th Street, which is located in the Jackson Heights neighborhood.
According to police, 27-year-old Kemar Odeane Officer was shot and killed after an argument. He has not yet been identified.
Police also are investigating a report by another man who said he was stabbed and suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Lt. Rick Ubinas with the Tampa Police Department said he was not aware of any previous problems at this bar, but stressed the importance of being aware of your surroundings.
“I always think now it’s always good advice with everything that’s going on, maintain good situational awareness when you walk in somewhere, look at the exit points, look at how people are acting/behaving. Is there and argument starting/brewing?” he asked.
“Well, then It might be time to leave.”
While the motive is unclear at this time, police say they are interviewing at least a dozen witnesses. They also are also in contact with a person of interest.
Police say they don’t know of any previous trouble in the area, but people speaking with 10News’ Emerald Morrow say they’re “tired” of the crime in the neighborhood — the police do not come around enough, they argue.
