Person of interest sought in fatal Chester Township shooting
CHESTER TOWNSHIP >> Police have released a surveillance image of a man they are searching in connection to a fatal shooting over the weekend outside a popular nightspot.
They are calling him a person of interest.
A man was fatally shot about 2 a.m. Sunday outside Boots and Bonnets Tavern in the 1500 block of Townsend Street.
Chester Township Police Chief Kenneth Coalson said following a verbal altercation in the parking lot, the victim went back to his car before an “individual or individuals” shot him from the street.
“One or maybe two subjects turned the corner and fired multiple rounds,” Coalson said.
Coalson said victim was shot twice in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s name has not yet been released.
Coalson said a marked police cruiser was parked in the lot as the crowd was emptying out of the bar. It was “relatively crowded” he said, but the officer was at the opposite end of the lot monitoring traffic when the shots rang out from far side.
“The officer heard the shot, but couldn’t see the suspect fleeing,” Coalson said.
Police continue to investigate the shooting and what may have sparked it.
No arrests have been made in the case, but police Monday did release a photo of a man they are referring to as a person of interest.
“We’re asking the community for help,” he said.
Anyone with any information on the shooting or the person in the photo is being asked to call Chester Township Detectives at 610-494-0211.
